Massillon was founded in 1812 by Thomas and Charity Rotch along the Sippo Creek and Tuscarawas River, some miles from the Ohio River. Later, the community was named Massillon by Mrs. Eliza Duncan after Louis XIV's famous court preacher, Jean Baptiste Massillon. In 1826, a canal was built between Cleveland and Massillon, the town becoming a thriving wheat and grain market for a time. There are now 37 major industries in Massillon.

Good roads and weather all the way. Arrived here late evening. It is cold here. It is colder than N.S.B., but not much.
