Description
A colorful street scene shows a San Francisco cable car turning on a steep hill with buildings lining both sides of the street. A white car sits in the foreground, and the bay area landscape rises in the distance behind the rooftops. Visible signs include Hyde Street Pier and Buena Vista Cafe. The card appears to be from the 1970s.

CABLE CAR — HYDE STREET, SAN FRANCISCO
Several cable car routes are used on famed San
Francisco hills. The cable car was invented in
this city by Andrew Hallidie in 1873. They are a
reminder of the Victorian age in San Francisco
and perform a service in this modern age.
