THE PARADE
Lower State Street, New London, Conn., is distinguished by the large Soldiers and Sailors' Monument here, which was hewn from native Westerly granite. This monument was presented to the city in 1895 by Sebastian D. Lawrence, one of the last of the old-time merchants, as "A tribute to the brave men who on land and sea have represented New London in our country's battles."

Hi Grandpa! Here's our town—not much for looks but nice.

Aubrey comes home from sea tonight for two weeks! Hurray! Sounds like you had a great birthday. Lots of love, Marillyn
