The armadillo, a native of South America, found its way into Southwest Texas. The body of the animal is encased in jointed armor of hornlike substance, prettily marked. The possibility of converting it into baskets and other interesting items of original design suggested itself to Chas. Apelt of Comfort, Texas. These baskets are such interesting and beautiful curios that the demand has become worldwide.
